Answer the following questions:

Use = 3.14

  1. Referring to the above figure, where the larger circle a has a radius of 6 cm and circle B has a radius of 2 cm, find the area of the shaded portion: (click for answer)

    Area of circle A = r2
    Area of circle A = 3.14 (62)
    Area of circle A = 3.14 x 36
    Area of circle A = 113.04 cm2

    Area of circle B = r2
    Area of circle B = 3.14 (22)
    Area of circle B = 3.14 x 4
    Area of circle B = 12.56 cm2

    Therefore,
    Area of the shaded region = Area of Circle A – area of Circle B
    Area of the shaded region = 113.04 cm2 – 12.56 cm2
    Area of the shaded region = 100.48 cm2
